Influence of Ridge Spacing, Ridge Width, and Reynolds Number on Secondary Currents in Turbulent Channel Flow Over Triangular Ridges

چکیده

Abstract Most studies of secondary currents (SCs) over streamwise aligned ridges have been performed for rectangular ridge cross-sections. In this study, above triangular are systematically studied using direct numerical simulations turbulent channel flow. The influence spacing on flow topology, mean flow, and turbulence statistics is investigated at two friction Reynolds numbers, 550 1000. addition, the effects width SCs, which not previously considered shape, explored. SCs shear stress increases with increased until fill entire channel. One primary findings that, configurations pronounced currents, exhibit clear number sensitivity a significant growth dispersive levels number. contrast to ridges, no above-ridge tertiary flows observed tested range widths. Flow visualisations reveal existence corner vortices that form intersection lateral sides smooth-wall sections. These found gradually disappear as increase in width. Premultiplied spectra velocity fluctuations show strong dependency spanwise sampling location. Whereas averaged modifications by energy emerges higher wavelengths sampled locations correspond centres currents.

Numerical Study of Reynolds Number Effects on Flow over a Wall-Mounted Cube in a Channel Using LES

Turbulent flow over wall-mounted cube in a channel was investigated numerically using Large Eddy Simulation. The Selective Structure Function model was used to determine eddy viscosity that appeared in the subgrid scale stress terms in momentum equations. Studies were carried out for the flows with Reynolds number ranging from 1000 to 40000. To evaluate the computational results, data was compa...

Revisiting Queney’s Flow Over a Mesoscale Ridge

The most familiar illustrations of downstream topographic waves are the streamline plots from the original linear wave studies of Queney (1947,1948). For steady flow past a twodimensional ridge, Queney’s downstream radiation patterns were obtained through approximations of the Fourier integral which describes the dispersion of linear gravity waves. In the case of constant stratification with ro...

DNS and LES of Scalar Transport in a Turbulent Plane Channel Flow at Low Reynolds Number

The paper reports on DNS and LES of plane channel flow at Reτ = 180 and compares these to a DNS with a higher order convection scheme. For LES different subgrid-scale models like the Smagorinsky, the Dynamic Smagorinsky and the Dynamic Mixed Model were used with the grid being locally refined in the near-wall region. The mixing of a passive scalar has been simulated with two convection schemes,...

Influence Measures in Ridge Linear Measurement Error Models

Usually the existence of influential observations is complicated by the presence of collinearity in linear measurement error models. However no method of influence measure available for the possible effect's that collinearity can have on the influence of an observation in such models. In this paper, a new type of ridge estimator based corrected likelihood function (REC) for linear measurement e...
